American Heart Association Friends & Family

Friends & Family Course

This American Heart Association program is a great class for new parents or those interested in learning the lifesaving skills of infant, child, and adult CPR and choking. Students are given a manual to take home; there is no certification card issued for this class. If you need to obtain a CPR certification card, the Heartsaver Course is probably a better fit for you.

If you do not see a date on the schedule that works for you, we can put a requested date on the calendar if you have 4 or more students who would like to take the class.

Why should I take this course?

Unfortunately, newborns don’t come with instruction manuals, and as a parent, you’re bound to make a few mistakes. Many times new parents feel afraid of what they don’t know in regard to their baby. You don’t have to know everything, but CPR training could go a long way in saving your child if they suddenly stop breathing or begin choking.

Saving Your Child’s Life
No parent wants to think about their child choking or ever needing to perform CPR on anyone, much less their own child. However, when done correctly CPR can save your child’s life. It can restore breathing and circulation until emergency personnel arrive.

Reasons a parent should know CPR:

CPR could save your child’s life, but here are some of the reasons that you may want to understand how:

  • Drowning

  • Choking

  • Respiratory failure

  • Suffocation

  • Accidents

  • Poisoning

  • Electrocution

  • Smoke inhalation

  • Possible sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)

Imagine if you had even a remote chance of saving someone’s life—wouldn’t you take it? You should begin learning it as soon as possible because you never know when you might need it. While you could use it to save your child’s life, it could also save another person’s life as well.
